As the natural hair movement started to gain traction ten years ago, my client began expressing a desire to embrace their texture. For the first time in our culture, the curls and the kinks we were born with was seen as something beautiful. I wanted to create a way for women to transition using protective styles that didn't require heat or chemical processing. I envisioned a collection with the perfect match for any and every natural texture - one that would celebrate, not conceal, our unique beauty. In 2012, Heat Free Hair was born.
Today, over half a million women around the world have revealed the versatility in all that it means to be natural.

How to Wash and Maintain Curly Hair Extensions: A Texture-by-Texture Guide
Curly hair extensions are an excellent way to increase volume, length, and versatility to your look; however, if you don’t know how to take care of them properly, then this could lead to frizz, tangles or loss of definition, and nobody deserves that. In this piece, we will enlighten you on how to give your extensions the love and care they deserve.
Our expert washing and maintenance advice will leave your curly hair extensions looking their best, and as a result, increase your confidence and help you to love yourself again!
Understanding the Different Types of Extensions
There are three different types of curly hair extensions, so it’s important to understand which category yours fall under so you can treat them effectively:
Virgin Curly Hair Extensions: Virgin curly hair extensions are named this way because they’re Remy human hair that has not been processed or treated with chemicals. This means they are extremely soft, long-lasting, and look and feel just like natural hair. Virgin curly hair extensions offer a versatile aesthetic, as they can be dyed and styled with blow dryers, curling irons or flat irons, so you can rock a number of different looks.
Curly Hair Wefts: Curly hair wefts are also made with Remy human hair that is not processed or chemically treated. It is a preferred choice for those wanting to wear a low-maintenance curly style because the pattern of hair is already curly.
Curly Clip-In Hair Extensions: Curly clip in hair extensions are crafted from human hair that clips either to a full head or specific sections of the hair to add volume and a curly texture.
How to Take Care of Curly Hair Extensions
Fully Saturate: When treating yourself to a wash, make sure to fully saturate your hair with lukewarm water to allow conditioner to work its magic. For wefts, it’s a good idea to avoid getting these wet as it can cause potential molding inside.
Condition and Moisturize: Conditioner is a curly hair extension’s best friend. Apply a generous amount and make sure every hair is coated. Again, avoid the weft area if this is your chosen extension.
Rinse: Remove all product in a downward motion with lukewarm water.
Brush With Fingers: While still wet, comb your hair with your fingers, or if preferred, a suitable brush such as a Denman brush.
Scrunch: Scrunching helps to remove excess water and enhances your natural curl pattern. Make sure to scrunch upwards and not to rub or twist the hair.
Air Dry: Dry your hair with a cotton T-shirt or microfiber towel and then leave it on a flat surface to air dry to avoid excess frizzing.
Reduce Heat Damage: Curly hair extensions are especially prone to heat damage. In order to protect your locs, reduce heat as much as possible.
Avoid Certain Products: Hairsprays and styling mousse are a big no-no. Instead, choose a leave-in conditioner to ensure they look clean and glossy.
Separate Bonds: Separate your bonds with your fingers daily to remove any tangles and knots. Trust us, you’ll regret it if you don’t!
Protect Whilst Sleeping: A satin scarf or pillowcase is the perfect way to look after your extensions while you sleep. This will reduce extra frizz. Or better yet, you could take them overnight.
